Floor Is Lava is a free browser platformer by Mad Chaos Software. Climb endless lava-filled towers across eight game modes — Climber, Frogger, Timer, Versus, the Volcano Chronicles story, sideways Caverns, a Level Editor, and the unlockable Lava Ship. Jump, survive, and don't touch the lava.

🎮 Game Modes

Climber — the core endless climb. Platforms above are always visible; climb as high as you can before the lava catches you.
🐸
Frogger — only a couple of platforms show above you. The rest are still there — leap up to find them.
⏱
Timer — reach platform checkpoints before the clock runs out. Miss one and the lava floods in. Fastest times set the record.
⚔️
Versus — race three AI rivals to the highest platform.
🌋
Volcano Chronicles — the story campaign. Climb each volcano to its target platform to rescue an artifact and unlock the next.
🕳️
Caverns — the climb occasionally breaks into a sideways run with horizontal lava, mine-carts, bats and vines before you punch back up.

🌋 The Lava

📈
The lava rises a little faster the higher you climb — keep moving.
🚀
Get too far ahead of it (~25 platforms) and it surges up close behind you — you can't outrun it forever.
🌙
Climb high enough and it turns to night — you can only see platforms right around you. A Torch lights the way again.

🧱 Platform Types

🟥
Red / Blue / Yellow — solid. Safe to stand on.
🟩
Green — carries a coin. Grab it.
🟪
Purple — deadly. It kills you after a couple of seconds — jump off fast.
❄️
Ice — slippery; you keep sliding until you jump off. Crumble — falls away soon after you land. Tipping — tilts and drops if you linger. Sticky — slows you down. Swing — hangs and sways. Crack — looks normal, but 0.6s after you land it snaps in the middle and drops you through (5 coins spill out).
🌿
Gaps sometimes have a vine — grab it to swing across.

Collect coins from green platforms and bonuses, then spend them on power-ups and in the Store.

Dying costs a small coin penalty. Premium removes all penalties.

Coins lost on death go to the Piggy Bank — win a quick mini-game to get them back.
