Floor Is Lava Climber Mode: How It Works
Climber is the classic endless climb and the best place to learn — you can always see the next 10 platforms above you, so it rewards steady rhythm and clean jumps over blind luck.
What it does
Climber is selected by default on the home screen's mode wheel. Platforms come in several colors and types: standard red, blue, and yellow platforms, plus green platforms that always carry a coin, ice platforms (slippery footing, and landing on one drops the lava level by 2), swinging platforms that hang and sway, and crumble platforms that shake with a short warning before falling apart. There are also two hazards that can turn up on top of any platform as you climb: sticky platforms slow your movement and can briefly block you from jumping, and tipping platforms tilt and drop out from under you if you linger too long — tipping shows up rarely at low levels (roughly 1 in 40) and gets noticeably more common the higher you climb (up to about 1 in 10 by level 10+). Purple platforms are a death-timer hazard — stand on one too long and it kills you.
There's no hearts system in Climber. Instead, dying sends your run's coins to a "Piggy Bank" and resets your power-ups to zero — you're then offered a quick rock-paper-scissors mini-game (roughly a 70% chance to win) or a rewarded ad to try to keep those coins. On top of that, a normal death costs you up to 30 coins as a death penalty (Premium players don't pay this penalty). Reaching the run's target platform instead keeps 100% of your coins and power-ups, which carry forward if you play again.
How to play it
- Select Climber on the home screen's mode wheel (it's the default).
- Tap Play, then jump platform to platform as the lava rises below you.
- Collect coins from green platforms and floating stars as you go.
- Buy power-ups from the shop, or hold the down-direction plus a number key (1-6 on desktop) to buy one on the spot the moment you run out.
Tips
- Green platforms always carry a coin — worth a small detour if it's not out of your way.
- Purple platforms are on a death timer — don't linger, keep moving.
- Tipping platforms get much more common as you climb higher, so treat every landing above level 10 as a "jump again soon" platform rather than a safe place to pause.
- If you're about to die, take the rock-paper-scissors offer over an ad if you'd rather not watch a video — it's a genuine chance to keep your coins, not a guaranteed loss.
- Reaching your target platform (set in Settings under Level Target) banks 100% of your coins and power-ups — worth knowing before you decide how far to push a risky run.
